Vampire Laundrey was an animation test I did as part of a collaborative animation called "Lost". The story was created by one of my fellow students Rogelio Hinojosa and a group of 11 people animated it under supervision of mentor John Nguyen. For this test, I was responsible for the animation, lighting, modeling of the environment and texturing of the coffin and stone structure below. The washing machine and candelabra were a free downloadable models.

I came up with the idea of the vampire, who's one of the main characters in the movie, to wash his cape and find out it had shrunken. The rig was still under development when I started this animation and halfway I realized that the cape that came originally with the vampire, could not be detached from his neck. The only thing I could do, was to hide the original cape and use a dummy. For the dummy cape, I used a nurbs plane and created a very simple rig consisting of clusters on each of the nurb control points. It became a very tedious job since the nurbs plane had a division of 8x8 so 64 nurbs control points that had to be animated per frame.

I planned the shot using sketches and video references. The sketches have been turned into an animated GIF for easier viewing, I did not attempt a 2D animation planning.

Here's the final version of the animation:
